Congratulations to Professor Susan A. Murphy

The Statistics Department is delighted to report that Professor Susan A. Murphy is to be given the 2018 R.A. Fisher Award and Lectureship. She will deliver the Fisher Lecture at the Joint Statistical Meetings this coming summer. Professor Murphy joined our Department in 2017 as the Professor of Statistics, Radcliffe Alumnae Professor at the Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University and Professor of Computer Science at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.

Professor Kosuke Imai joins Harvard

The Statistics Department is delighted to report that Professor Kosuke Imai (currently Professor, Department of Politics and Center for Statistics and Machine Learning at Princeton) will become Professor of Government and Statistics at Harvard from the fall of 2018 and be a senior faculty member of our Department. Professor Imai's research area is political methodology and more generally applied statistics in the social sciences. He has extensively worked on the development and applications of statistical methods for causal inference with experimental and observational data.

Senior Lecturer Mark Glickman Brings New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports to Harvard

The New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports is a meeting of statisticians and quantitative analysts connected with sports teams, sports media, and universities to discuss common problems of interest in statistical modeling and analysis of sports data. The symposium format is a mixture of invited talks, a poster session, and a panel discussion. It was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, and will return to the Harvard campus in 2019.
