Professor Xihong Lin Featured in September Amstat News Article

"Professor Xihong Lin was recently featured in a September 1st Amstat News article titled, "Xihong Lin: On the Front Lines of COVID-19 Research" (Kim Gilliam, Amstat News). The article documents how Lin became involved in researching the spread of COVID-19 and effective preventative measures.  Based on the data about the virus from Wuhan, Lin shared her team's insights and recommendations for COVID safety and prevention with Harvard and the larger community.  In addition, Lin was asked to serve on the COVID-19 Massachusetts State Task Force to advise the governor on testing, isolation, quarantine, and contact tracing for the state.

In the article, Lin reflects on the importance of communicating effectively about the data to the larger public, “If biostatisticians and statisticians want to make an impact in the world, we must learn how to effectively communicate with the policymakers and the general public on scientific findings, build public trust, and engage them in implementing these recommendations. We also need to work with all the stakeholders to ensure implementations are country and region specific. We can have the most beautiful data findings, but if they cannot be implemented, it will be impossible to have a real world impact.”
