The Statistics Department would like to share the exciting news that Postdoctoral Fellow Jingming Wang (in Assistant Professor Tracy Ke's research group) won the Best Poster Award for the 2022 Workshop on Statistical Network Analysis and Beyond. Jingming’s poster presentation was based on her paper Optimal Network Membership Estimation Under Severe Degree Heterogeneity. This paper theoretically characterizes the effect of degree heterogeneity on the error rate of estimating mixed memberships in a large social network and provides a rate-optimal spectral algorithm that works for arbitrary degree heterogeneity.
