Statistics Concentrator Minjae Kim Receives Data Challenge Honorable Mention at STAI-X 2026

Minjae Kim receives the Data Challenge Honorable Mention award at STAI-X from Professor Junwei Lu

The Harvard Department of Statistics is thrilled to share that Senior Statistics Concentrator and A.M. student Minjae Kim received a Data Challenge Honorable Mention at the STAI-X Conference on July 31, 2026.  Minjae accepted the award from Professor Junwei Lu on behalf of his Harvard team members, Ph.D. students Danny Lee and Bruce Zhou, for their project on statistical prediction and forecasting accuracy.

The inaugural 2026 Statistics and Trustworthy AI for Cross (X)-Domain Acceleration (STAI-X) Conference was held on July 31 and August 1 at Harvard University.  This innovative event brought researchers together to share strategies for cross-domain collaboration and interdisciplinary research in statistics and AI.

A core part of the program, the Data Challenge brought teams together from academia and industry to develop integrated statistics and AI solutions to tackle an urgent public health issue: forecasting state-level rates of suspected nonfatal overdose emergency department visits.

Congratulations, Minjae and team!
