Subhabrata Sen is Promoted to Associate Professor

Subhabrata Sen

The Department of Statistics is thrilled to share that Subhabrata Sen has been promoted to Associate Professor.

As a leading theoretical statistician, Sen has developed a clear and distinctive program that connects probability, statistics, and machine learning, bringing conceptual unity to areas that are often studied separately. Across these diverse topics, a unifying theme emerges: identifying sharp thresholds that determine when meaningful learning is possible and designing algorithms that achieve those limits. Rather than relying on simplifying assumptions such as sparsity or low dimensionality, Sen rigorously characterizes structural phenomena, including phase transitions and statistical–computational tradeoffs, that recur across seemingly different models.

Professor Sen's research contributions have been recognized through prominent awards and grants, including the prestigious NSF CAREER Award. Exemplifying his impact as a teacher and mentor, Sen has received the Roslyn Abramson Award at Harvard for “excellence and sensitivity in teaching undergraduates.”

Congratulations, Professor Sen, on this well-deserved milestone!
