The Faculty of the Department of Statistics at Harvard seeks to advance statistical methodology and theory by thinking hard about novel and complex applied problems. By solving challenging problems in many areas of science, social science, humanities and technology, and then generalizing them into broadly applicable statistical techniques, our faculty and our students have generated some of the largest breakthroughs in our field since our founding in 1957. The deep interplay between application, computation, and theory is the cornerstone of our community, as well as the backbone of data science.
We are also very proud of our long track record of producing graduates who become builders and leaders of many areas of scientific and human endeavor.
