Lucy Tu

The Department of Statistics would like to congratulate Harvard undergraduate Lucy Tu, who is studying sociology, neuroscience, and the history of science, on her American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Mass Media Fellowship from the American Statistical Association.  The purpose of the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship is to support scholars on projects related to increasing public understanding of science and technology.

According to the June 1st edition of AMSTAT News, Lucy is the first undergraduate to be sponsored by the ASA and will spend 10 weeks teaching science classes to K-12 students and working at Scientific American as a science journalist.  One of Lucy's previous accomplishments was to plan and lead demonstrations of the sciences at 5 elementary schools where science instruction was eliminated from the curriculum.  She has also excelled at working as a Teaching Fellow (TF) for two semesters in Stat 100: Introduction to Statistics and Data Science with lead instructor Dr. Kelly McConville.  We look forward to having Lucy return as a TF this fall for Stat 100!
