Mark Sellke to be appointed Assistant Professor of Statistics

The Department is Statistics is delighted to report that Mark Sellke will be joining us as an Assistant Professor of Statistics, starting in July 2023. Mark is currently a PhD student in Stanford Math Department where he works on probability, high-dimensional geometry, statistics, optimization, and machine learning. He will be spending 2022/23 at the Institute of Advanced Studies in Princeton.

2021 Dempster Prize awarded to Ambarish Chattopadhyay

The Department of Statistics is pleased to announce the 2021 Dempster Prize will be awarded to Ambarish Chattopadhyay for his paper (with Jose Zubizarreta) "On the implied weights of linear regression for causal inference".
Congratulations to Ambarish! We had a large number of very strong applications for the prize. We are very grateful to all of those who took part in the competition.

ASAs’ 2022 Leo Breiman Senior Award given to Professor Susan A. Murphy

I am delighted to report Professor Susan A. Murphy, Mallinckrodt Professor of Statistics and of Computer Science and Radcliffe Alumnae Professor at the Radcliffe Institute, Harvard University, has been award the American Statistical Association’s senior 2022 Leo Breiman Award.  Made every two years the award is for “outstanding theoretical or methodological contributions to machine learning and/or computational statistics, contributions which have made a substantial, sustained impact on the subject and on practical applications."
