The Institute of Mathematical Statistics has selected Professor Xiao-Li Meng as their President-Elect (weblink http://bulletin.imstat.org/2017/07/ims-election-results/ ). His term as President starts in July 2018. Professor Meng is Harvard’s Whipple V. N. Jones Professor of Statistics and Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. The New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports is a meeting of statisticians and quantitative analysts connected with sports teams, sports media, and universities to discuss common problems of interest in statistical modeling and analysis of sports data. The symposium format is a mixture of invited talks, a poster session, and a panel discussion. It was held on Saturday, September 23, 2017, and will return to the Harvard campus in 2019. G2 PhD student Ryan Lee, two Ph.D. students from the Harvard Biostatistics program (Siyuan Ma, Boyu Ren), and a Ph.D. student from MIT (Eric Alt) took home the first place at the Boston Citadel-Correlation One Datathon! Around 700 people initially entered this competition. Their prize was a $20,000 check. They now go on to compete at the Global competition on 27 Nov 2017. Congratulations Ryan!
